Felix Alexandre Guilmant

This website is dedicated to the memory of Felix Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911), one of the greatest organists in the late nineteenth century. Born in Boulogne-sur-Mer (France) he studied with Lemmens in Brussels and since 1871 lived and worked in Paris. Guilmant was world famous in his days and made three concert trips to the United States of America. Many organ concerts were played by him, including very special series in the Palais de Trocadéro in Paris.

Guilmant was a great improviser and a wellknown teacher. He published old music that had long been forgotten. His own oeuvre is large: 94 opus numbers and many unpublished or unnumbered works.

On this site you will find everything about Guilmant and his work. There is a list of works as complete as possible. Pictures of Guilmant, the organs he played and people around him, a biography, lists of publications about Guilmant and of his music, and a discography.

It is my wish that Felix Alexandre Guilmant will never be forgotten and that his work will continue to inspire people all over the world.

The experience of the Guilmant organ works in their original context and in the superb recording makes this CD a real 'must have'.

The CD contains many pieces that has not been recorded before, certainly not in the reed-organ edition.
